A preschool has been slammed as ‘un-Australian’ after it demanded parents fork out $2,200 for their children’s artwork to cover teachers’ unpaid wages.
Craigslea Community Kindergarten and Preschool in Brisbane‘s north was recently plunged into voluntary administration and subsequently closed.
Records show the centre, which caters to children between the ages of three and five, owed debts of $46,000 in the last financial year.
Not only has the sudden closure left dozens of parents in the lurch, but they then received a bizarre request from the management committee on Monday.
‘If you are opposed to the committee using the portfolios as a $2,200 per piece fundraiser to make up for the $40,314 owing to teachers, please complete the below,’ the email stated.
Parents were then asked to ‘oppose’ or ‘agree’ to pay for their children’s artwork.
Queensland Police confirmed it is investigating after a parent was accused of ‘stealing’ her child’s portfolio from the centre…
